Sexual Assault And Child Abuse Awareness Month

The co-director for ASTOP says the general public may not be aware of how many young children are victims of sexual assault. “Statistics that I would like to share with everyone today is that one out of four females will be sexually assaulted by her 18th birthday. When it comes to males one out six males will be sexually assaulted by his 18th birthday.” Angel Gilbertson notes ASTOP serves survivors of sexual assault in Fond du Lac, Green Lake, and Waushara counties with advocacy services and also provides prevention education in schools. She says, “For the year 2017 ASTOP took in 392 calls on our 24 hour crisis line. Our prevention educator did 595 presentations including 13,539 participants.” ASTOP’s 24 hour crisis line is 920-926-5395. April is Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Awareness Month.
