Sheriff’s Deputy Injured In Thursday Traffic Stop

A Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy received injuries Thursday evening during an incident on I-41. The Deputy was attempting a traffic stop just before 8:45 p.m. Thursday on I-41 near Cty. Rd. B, for a vehicle traveling without any taillights.

The Deputy had requested backup due to the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, with two State Troopers arriving on the scene. Both the driver and passenger were requested to exit the vehicle, and while the driver exited the vehicle, the passenger jumped into the driver’s seat and took off, with the Deputy and one of the Troopers being dragged with the vehicle for a short distance before being thrown from the vehicle, landing in the southbound lanes of Interstate 41. Officers attempted to pursue but lost sight of it.

The suspect, a 43-year-old Milwaukee man, is currently wanted by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol on numerous charges. of Recklessly Endangering Safety, Battery to Law Enforcement Officers, Fleeing or Eluding Law Enforcement, Operate Vehicle without Owner’s Consent, Hit and Run Cause Injury and Resisting or Obstructing an Officer. The Sheriff’s Office is currently working with Milwaukee area law enforcement to locate the suspect. The Deputy was treated and released from a local hospital with minor injuries. Neither Trooper received any medical attention.
