Sheriffs Detective Talks About Forms Of Fraud

A detective with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department has some advice to prevent residents from being ripped off. Detective Dave Olig urges people to be especially careful while shopping this holiday season. He recommends not leaving your purse in your cart, leave your social security card at home, lock your car and don’t leave valuables in plain sight.  Olig also emphasizes that you should always research a charity before you give to it pointing out plenty of people got scammed trying to donate to hurricane relief efforts. Every year Americans lose $40 billion to telemarketing scams and 57 percent of those who fall for the scams are 50-years-old or older.
