Shopko Announces More Store Closures

Shopko has announced more store closings
after filing for bankruptcy protection last month. An additional 139 stores
were added to the list of stores Wednesday, including several Shopko Hometown
and Shopko Express locations, in addition to regular retail stores. Stores in
the region set to close include “Hometown” stores in Mayville, Kiel, Brillion,
Columbus and Winneconne. The final day of operation for those stores is
expected to be May 5^th. The retailer says
they will relocate 50 optical centers in closing stores to freestanding
locations. A statement released by the company Wednesday said “We remain
hopeful that we will be able to emerge as a stronger company, and we believe
that this is the best course of action to make ourselves more attractive to
potential buyers and successfully emerge from Chapter 11.” There has been no
word on the fate of the Shopko store in Fond du Lac yet.
