Snow Squall Wreaks Havoc Friday Night

A surprise snow squall Friday night made driving treacherous, with white out conditions for nearly an hour, causing numerous spin outs, and in one case, a 40-vehicle crash near Wausau.

The snow storm rolled in about 7:15 p.m. Friday (2/18/2022), dumping nearly an inch of snow and wind gusts near 60 mph.

The squall also forced the popular winter event, Battle on Bago, to close down their tent in Oshkosh on Lake Winnebago, out of an abundance of caution.

There were also reports of a number of vehicles that went through the ice near Noffke’s Landing on Lake Poygan Friday night. A dive team did respond, but there were no reports of any injuries as of Saturday morning.

The wind is expected to continue through Saturday, and motorists are advised to take extra precautions at intersections as well as rural roads and highways, as blowing and drifting snow will create hazardous driving conditions in many areas.
