Social Security Online Accounts

Fond du Lac Senior Center Director Cathy Loomans recently received information from the Social Security Administration urging people to create online Social Security accounts. She says it is a real thing, but still gave her pause. It would allow people to check their statements, request new cards, make changes for address and phone numbers and do other business. But she is concerned that it also provides opportunities for scammers to mislead senior citizens. Accounts can be set up with the Social Security website. They will send an email with an activation code to create your online account. Loomans cautions to be very protective about the account and make sure if you get emails pertaining to business with that account you don’t click on a link that could put malware on your computer.
