The Brewers added a gold glove outfielder at the trading deadline on Thursday.  GM Doug Melvin sent a pair of minor leaguers to Arizona in exchange for Gerardo Parra.  He can play all three outfielder positions and adds a left handed bat to the lineup.   St. Louis added another starting pitcher as well, dealing Allen Craig and Joe Kelly to Boston for John Lackey.  Rays pitcher David Price ended up in Detroit as part of a three team dealing also involving the Mariners.  Boston also sent pitcher Jon Lester to the A’s.

 

The Brewers open up a huge three game set in St. Louis tonight.  Jimmy Nelson will face Adam Wainwright.  Coverage begins at 6:40pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.  The Brewers begins the game with a 2 game lead over St. Louis, a 2.5 game cushion over Pittsburgh and a 5.5 game lead over the Reds.

It’s another 8:20am workout today for the Green Bay Packers as they get ready for Saturday night’s Family Night Scrimmage at Lambeau.  The workout is open to the public.

 

The Badgers open up training camp this weekend in Madison.  Wisconsin has their sights set on a Big Ten Western Division championship and a return to the Big Ten Title Game. 

 

Marc Leishman has a one shot lead over Ryan Moore, Justin Rose and Charl Schwartzel after one round of the Bridgestone Invite in Ohio.  Steve Stricker was +4.

 

American golfer Dustin Johnson has taken a leave of absence from the PGA Tour to deal with personal issues.  Johnson will not play in the Ryder Cup and was ranked as the 5th best golfer in the world.

 

The Bucks have signed free agent guard Jerryd Bayless.  The 25-year-old averaged 9.3 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists per game last season with Memphis and Boston
