Waupun American Legion baseball’s opening game against Valley City North Dakota in the 2016 Central Plains D2 Regional Tournament was postponed to 9am this morning due to rain

Brett Favre will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday evening. Packers offensive coordinator and former teammate of Favre, Edgar Bennett says Favre’s journey to the Hall of Fame took time, coaching and opportunity, while Head Coach Mike McCarthy says he admired Favre’s passion for winning. Former Packers linebacker coach Kevin Greene will also be inducted into the hall on Saturday.

The current Packers will take the field Sunday night against the Colts in the Hall of Fame Game at Canton. Pre-game is at 5pm, kickoff at 7pm, listen on News/Talk 1450 KFIZ.

The Brewers were off on Thursday, one day after getting hammered by the San Diego Padres 12-3 in the series finale at Petco Park in San Diego. Tonight, Milwaukee will open a three game weekend series at Arizona. The two teams met last week at Miller Park, with the Brewers taking three of four games in the series. Chase Anderson gets the nod for Milwaukee tonight, he’s 6-10 on the season with a 5.13 ERA. Arizona counters with righty Braden Shipley, he’s 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA. The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored five runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to defeat the Burlington Bees 9-2 Thursday night at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The final game of that series is tonight in Appleton, with first pitch slated for 7:05 pm

In college football, the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll was released Thursday, with defending champion Alabama earning 55 out of 64 possible first place votes to grab the number one spot. Clemson came in at number two, earning 7 first place votes. Oklahoma was number 3, Florida State was number four, earning one first place vote, with Ohio State five, LSU six, Stanford number 7, Michigan 8th, Notre Dame 9th and Tennessee 10th. The Volunteers also earned one first place vote. Other Big Ten teams in the poll included Michigan State at 11 and Iowa at number 15. Wisconsin was not ranked, but did receive 82 votes.

Madison native Jerry Kelly is tied for the lead at the 2016 Travelers Championship being held in Cromwell, Connecticut. Kelly, Vaughn Taylor and Andrew Loupe all shot a six-under 64 to top the leaderboard at the end of the day Thursday.
