Gomez Avoids Arbitration

The Brewers and Carlos Gomez agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.3 million dollars on Thursday.  Pitchers John Axford, Marco Estrada, and Burke Badenhop are the only players left facing arbitration.

Lucroy To WBC

The Brewers will have another player in the World Baseball Classic.  Catcher Jonathan Lucroy found out on Thursday that he was picked to play for the United States along with Ryan Braun.  With Martin Maldonado playing for Puerto Rico both of the Brewers catchers will miss a good portion of Spring Training.  Yovani Gallardo is pitching for Mexico.  Pitchers John Axford and Jim Henderson and infielder Taylor Greene are also playing for Canada.  Carlo Gomez is also playing for the Dominican Republic giving the Brewers the limit of 8 Big Leaguers from their team in the WBC.  Six other minor leaguers on various teams, putting the team at the organizational max of 14 participants.

Logan To Brewers Walk of Fame

The Brewers will add former infielder Johnny Logan to their Walk of Fame outside of Miller Park this summer.  He was a four time All-Star during his career with the Milwaukee Braves from 1953 to 1961.  He hit .268 with 93 homers and 547 RBI during his 13 year career.

Two More Coaches Hired

The Jacksonville Jaguars found their head coach hiring Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley on Thursday.  Arizona also is set to hire Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians as their head coach.  Arians coached the Colts while Chuck Pagano battled Leukemia.

Phillips Gets Another Year

The NCAA has granted Badger quarterback Curt Phillips a 6th year of eligibility.  He’s battled multiple knee injuries during his time at Madison.

Armstrong Admits It All

As expected cycling legend Lance Armstrong admitted to Oprah Winfey on Thursday night that he used PEDs blood doped during his career.  Armstrong has been stripped of his seven Tour de France championships and also an Olympic medal.

Bucks Set Suns

The Milwaukee Bucks won at Phoenix for the first time since 1987 with a 98-94 victory over the Suns. Monta Ellis led the way with 24 points.  Larry Sanders added 19 points and 15 rebounds. The win improves the Bucks to 20-10 on the season. Larry Costello, Don Nelson and now Jim Boylan are the only Bucks coaches in franchise history to win a game in Phoenix.  They travel to Portland on Saturday night.
