Spartans Head To Racine

The Laconia Spartan football team heads to Racine to take on Racine St. Catherine’s in the 2nd round of the WIAA Division 5 football playoffs tonight.  Both team’s are 8-1 on the season.  St. Cats was a perfect 6-0 and champion of the Metro Classic Conference.  If Laconia is going to advance they will have to shutdown running back Sean Madden, who has rushed for 1537 yards and 26 touchdowns. The game kicks off at 7pm and will be played at Racine Horlick. 

 

Ledgers Host Manawa Saturday Night

St. Mary’s Springs must wait until Saturday night before they kick off their 2nd round Division Six football game with Manawa.  Manawa finished in 3rd place in the Central Wisconsin Eight Conference.  You’ll hear the game on Saturday night on KFIZ and streaming at kfiz.com.  Coverage begins at 6:30pm with the kickoff set for 7pm.  It’s presented by the BCI Burke Company and also brought to you by Taco Bell and Immel Insurance and Financial Services.

Viking Soccer At State

The Winnebago Academy boys soccer team will play LaCrosse Aquinas this morning in a a Division Three State Semifinal in Milwaukee.  The Vikings were runners-up in last year’s D3 Tournament and are making their 4th overall appearance at the WIAA State Tournament.  WLA is 18-5-3 on the year while Aquinas is 15-6-2.  The game kicks off at 9am.  If the Vikings win, the Division Three State Championship Game is Saturday morning at 10am.

WIAA Boys Volleyball

The WIAA Boys Volleyball Tournament opens up tonight with Regional action across the state.  Fond du Lac is a #3 seed and will host Homestead tonight at 7pm. The winner will play at Hartland Arrowhead on Tuesday night.

 

 

Viking Runners Head To State

The Winnebago Lutheran boys cross country team has qualified for the Division Two State Meet in Wisconsin Rapids on Saturday.  It’s the 2nd time in school history that the Vikings boys team has qualified for the meet.  Vikings Head Coach Larry Klukas thinks that individually Mitch Bilitz has a chance to be near the front at the end of the race.  He thinks the team also is prepped for a strong race.   Waupun’s team has also qualified for the Division Two race, which is set to begin at 11:40am on Saturday at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

 

Bucks Win

The Bucks beat the Bobcats100-90 in a game that was played Thursday morning in Charlotte.  Tobias Harris had 18 points and Mike Dunleavy 17 in the win.  Milwaukee will play Minnesota tonight at the Resch Center in Green Bay tonight..  You’ll hear the game on KFIZ. Coverage begins at 6:40pm with the tip set for 7pm.

 

Stern To Retire

NBA Commissioner David Stern announced that he will retire February 1st, 2014. That’s 30 years to the day that he took the job.

 

World Series Game Two

The San Francisco Giants scored single runs in the 7th and 8th innings to beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 and take a two games to none lead in the World Series. Madison Baumgarner struck out 8 have gave up just 2 hits in 7 innings of work.  The series shifts back to Detroit on Saturday for Game 3.

Jennings To Have Surgery

Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings is set to have surgery on Tuesday to repair a sports hernia.  He’s been battling a groin injury over the last few years and a specialist diagnosed the abdominal tear this week.  Recovery time could be 3 to 6 weeks for Jennings.  The Packers host Jacksonville at Lambeau on Sunday at Noon.  Coverage begins at 10am on KFIZ.

 

Badgers Host MSU

The Wisconsin Badgers and Michigan State Spartans will square off at Camp Randall Stadium on Saturday in a rematch of last season’s Big Ten Title Game.  You’ll hear the game on KFIZ.  Coverage begins at 12:30pm with the kickoff set for 2:30pm.  You can also hear this week’s Bret Bielema Show tonight at 5:30pm on KFIZ.
