Sports – Monday, July 8th, 2013

The Mets beat the Brewers 2-1 on Sunday at Miller Park.  Reliever Tom Gorzelanny took a spot start in place of Wily Peralta who had a tight hamstring and gave up just 2 unearned runs in 6 innings of work but gets hung with a loss. Jonathan Lucroy provided the only offense with a solo homer in the 7th.  The Brewers had just three hits on the day. The Crew opens up a series with the Reds tonight at Miller Park.  Kyle Lohse takes on Homer Bailey.  Coverage begins at 6:35pm on KFIZ.

 

Brewers All-Stars

If you missed it over the weekend, the Brewers will have a pair of All-Stars.  Carlos Gomez and Jean Segura were both named reserves for the National League in next week’s game.  Sergua may actually start for the NL as the Rockies Troy Tulowitzki was voted the starter but is injured.  The All-Star Game is a week from tomorrow in New York.

Bucks Moves

The Bucks filled out their roster by signing three players over the weekend.  Dallas guard OJ Mayo agreed to terms on Friday to come to Milwaukee.  Then this weekend a pair of former Bucks agreed to return to the franchise.  Center Zaza Pachullia comes to the Bucks from Atlanta and sharp shooter Carlos Delfino returns to the Bucks after a stint in Houston.

 

Wimbledon

They were dancing in the streets in Great Britain on Sundays as one of their own won the Wimbledon men’s title.  Andy Murray became the first home countryman to win the title in 77 years after a three set win over #1 seed Novak Djokovic. 

 

Golf

Jonas Blixt won the Greenbrier Classic on the PGA Tour in West Virginia.  He was two shots better than Steven Bowditch.

 

Babe Ruth State Baseball

The Fond du Lac Babe Ruth baseball team picked up a 12-2 win in six innings over Cross Plains in the U16 to U18 State Tournament in Dodgeville on Sunday.  Drew Liebner struck out 5 in 4 innings of work to pick up the win for Fondy. Maustin Otterstattter pitched the final two innings and struck out 4 of the six batters he faced. Fond du Lac is 2-0 in the tournament and will play today at 4pm.
