Cubs Edge Crew

The Chicago Cubs evened their series with the Brewers on Wednesday night with a 5-4 win at Miller Park. Yovani Gallardo gave up 5 runs and 8 hits in four innings of work to get hung with the loss.  The Crew had a chance to tie it in the 9th but Rickie Weeks was thrown out at the plate on a contact play.  Aramis Ramirez collected his 2000th career hit with a homer in the 2nd innings.  The series wraps up this afternoon as Wily Peralta takes on Matt Garza.  Coverage begins at 12:35pm with the first pitch at 1:10pm on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.

 

Brewers Moves

The Brewers have sent 2B Scooter Gennett back to Triple-A Nashville.   Rickie Weeks has been hitting over .400 in June so Gennetts playing time was going to be limited.  First baseman Sean Halton was called up to win fill the roster spot.

NBA Draft

The NBA Draft is tonight.  The Cleveland Cavs pick first, followed by the Orlando Magic and Washington Wizards.  The Bucks have the 15th and 43rd picks tonight.

NBA Hall of Famer Larry Bird is back with the Indiana Pacers as he is named team president.  Former Bucks coach Jim Boylan has signed on to be the top assistant with the Cavs.

 

Hernandez Charged With Murder

Former Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was charged with 1st degree murder on Wednesday in the death of a friend.  Officials say the two allegedly got in a dispute after they left a night club.  Odin Lloyd’s body was found miles from Hernandez’s home.  He is being held without bail. The Patriots cut Hernandez right after he arrested.    Last summer he signed a five-year, $40 million dollar extension with New England.

 

Wimbledon

A pair of big names were bounced from Wimbledon on Wednesday.  Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova were sent home early. 

 

Waupun’s Schmitt Wins Award

The Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association has recently honored Waupun assistant baseball coach Mike Schmitt was the State Springs Assistant Coach of the Year.
