The Packers placed running back Cedric Benson on the new Injured Reserve with option to return on Wednesday, meaning the running back can be placed back on the active roster after 8 weeks.  Head coach Mike McCarthy says that Alex Green will be number one on the depth chart with James Starks and Brandon Saine also being in the mix as he plans to go with the hot hand.  The coach also says that NT BJ Raji, TE Jerimichael Finley and WR Greg Jennings will sit out practice all week and will be evaluated on Sunday as to whether they can play against the Texans.

 

Packers linebacker Nick Perry was fined $15,000 by the NFL for his hit against the Colts Andrew Luck last weekend.  He says he plans to appeal.

 

It was a wild day in the Major League Baseball Playoffs.  In the American League, Raul Ibanez pinch hit for Alex Rodriguez in the 9th and hit a game tying solo homer and then hit the game winning homer in the 12th to give the Yankees a 3-2 win over Baltimore and take a 2-1 series lead.  Game 4 of the series is tonight.

 

The Oakland A’s also stayed alive in the American League with a dramatic 3 run rally in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Tigers 4-3. Coco Crisp’s two out RBI single won it for the A’s sending the series to a Game 5 tonight.

 

In the National League, the Cardinals blanked the Nationals 8-0 to take a 2-1 series lead.  Game 4 of the series is this afternoon.  The Giants forced a Game 5 in their series with am 8-3 win over the Reds.  The deciding game of that series beings just after noon today in Cincinnati. 

 

The Badger men’s basketball team will be without senior forward Mike Bruesewitz for the first 4-6 weeks of the season. UW officials say he was hurt went he collided with the basketball standard.  He had surgery Tuesday.  Bucky is set to open practice on Saturday.

 

The WIAA Girls State Tennis Tournament kicks off today in Madison.  Fond du Lac has a singles player and a doubles team in the Division One bracket.  Sophomore Nicole Feltz takes a 31-1 record into her first round matchup tonight against Lindsey Gosse (16-7) of Sheboygan North at 5pm.  In doubles, Seniors Erin Cole and Emily Nett (13-9) will face Maggie Douglas and Emily Thiel (5-6) of Madison East at 5:30pm.  If both win they will play their 2nd round matches on Friday morning.
