The Fond du Lac Babe Ruth baseball team is still alive in the U16-18 World Series in Covington, Alabama.  The Bombers stopped Mid-County, Texas 7-6 on Monday.  Al Kaphengst went 2×4 with 4 RBI in the win.  Fondy finished pool play at 2-2 and qualifies them for the six team, single elimination, bracketed tournament and a chance at a national championship.  Fond du Lac will play Mobile, Alabama tonight at 7pm in the national quarterfinals.


Brewers Fall

St. Louis rallied for an 8-5 win over the Brewers at Miller Park on Monday night.  The Brewers took a 5-4 lead in the 7th on a two run shot by Aramis Ramirez, but the Cards came back to score 4 times in the 8th.  Brandon Kintzler got charged with all four runs and was hung with the loss.  Starter Marco Estrada gave up 4 runs and 8 hits in six innings of work. The series continues tonight as Kyle Lohse takes on Lance Lynn.  Coverage begins at 6:35pm on KFIZ.


Packers

The Packers get back on the practice field today as they get ready for preseason game #3 on Friday night against Seattle at Lambeau.  It’s a big week for the bottom of the roster as the team must cut down to 75 players this weekend.


Badgers

The Badger football team is about a week and a half away from their season opener against Massachusetts at Camp Randall on August 31st.  Head Coach Gary Andersen still hasn’t named a starting quarterback as Curt Phillips, Joel Stave, and transfer Tanner McEvoy battle for the job.  You’re home for Wisconsin Badger football all season ling is News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.


High School Football

The high school football season kicks off this weekend and KFIZ will have you covered.  On Friday night at 5:30pm, we’ll zip around the area and chat with a handful of coaches about how their team is getting ready for the season with the Backyard Grill Kickoff Show.  At 6:30pm, we’ll head to Fruth Field as Fond du Lac hosts Appleton North in a non-conference game.  The kickoff is set for 7pm.  On Saturday night, St. Mary’s Springs hosts Sheboygan Falls in their season opener.  Coverage on Saturday begins at 6:30pm.  Ledger football on KFIZ is presented by BCI Burke Company.
