The Packers will have to work without linebacker Clay Matthews for a bit.  ESPN is reporting that Matthews broke his thumb on Sunday and he will miss about a month.  The Packers have not made any announcement on Matthews’ status.  The team did put linebacker Robert Francois on season-ending injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon.  Cornerback James Nixon was promoted to the active roster from the practice squad to fill the roster spot.

The Jets Nick Folk kicked a 43-yard field goal as time expired giving the Jets a 30-28 win in Atlanta on Monday Night Football. The loss drops the Falcons to 1-4 on the season.  The Jets are 3-2.  Week 6 of the NFL season begins on Thursday when the Bears host the Giants.  You’ll hear that game on KFIZ.

Members of the University of Wisconsin Band have reported that Lions center Dominic Raiola verbally abused then during their performance at Lambeau Field on Sunday.  Multiple band members say Raiola spewed insults involved the band’s physical appearance and sexuality during their pregame appearance.  The Lions say they are investigating.  Raiola’s brother Donovan played center for the Badgers.

The Oakland Raiders have cut quarterback Matt Flynn.  The former Packers backup signed a big free agent deal before last season with Seattle, and then sat behind Russell Wilson.  He was traded to Oakland this offseason and sat behind Terrell Pryor and made just one start.  Flynn made $14 million dollars over the last two season.  Mike McCarthy said that he was happy with current backup Seneca Wallace when asked if Flynn could possibly come back to Green Bay.

It was an exciting Monday for the Major League Baseball playoffs.  In the National League, St. Louis forced a deciding Game 5 in their NLDS with a 2-1 win in Pittsburgh.  Rookie Adam Wacha took a no-hitter into the 8th for the Cardinals.  The Dodgers moved into the National League Championship Series as Jose Uribe hit a game winning two run homer in the 8th to beat the Braves and win the series 3-1.  In the American League, Oakland took a 2-1 series lead with a 6-3 win over Detroit.  The Tampa Bay Rays stayed alive as Jose Lobaton’s solo shot in the bottom of the 9th provided the 5-4 walk-of win.  Today, Oakland’s at Detroit and Boston’s at Tampa Bay.
