High School Sports News:

North Fond du Lac High School will not field a varsity football team this season. Orioles head coach Todd Whittaker tells us that they will play a full Junior Varsity 2 schedule in the Flyway Conference this year, and hope to return to varsity play next year. Whittaker says low numbers and concern over the safety of players led to the decision.

In turn, Flyway Conference opponents have begun scheduling replacement games to make up for the cancellation of North Fond du Lac’s season. St. Mary’s Springs will travel to Watertown Luther Prep on September 1st, while Winnebago Lutheran will travel to Poynette on September 8th and Laconia will host Nekoosa on October 6th.

The Packers have released troubled defensive lineman Letroy Guion. Guion played in 44 regular season games and started 35 of them over three seasons in Green Bay. He also appeared in seven playoff games, starting five of them. Guion was set to serve a four-game suspension to start the year after violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy. He also has a DUI case pending from a June incident in Hawaii. Guion was first arrested in February 2015 and charged with two felony counts of possession for having a semi-automatic handgun and two bags of marijuana.
