Brewers

The Brewers rallied for a 4-3 win over the A’s in 10 innings last night at Miller Park.  The Brewers scored three runs in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game and then Yuni Betancourt’s single to right-center scored Carlos Gomez all the way from first with the game winner in the extra frame.  John Axford picked up the win by pitching a scoreless 10th.  Kyle Lohse gave up 3 earned runs in 6 innings of work but got the no decision. The series wraps up this afternoon as Yovani Gallardo takes on Bartolo Colon.  Coverage begins at 12:35pm on KFIZ.

 

ESPN: Braun Could Be Suspended

ESPN Outside the Lines reported last night that Major League Baseball is ready to suspend Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun and 19 other players for their tie to a Miami clinic that allegedly provided PEDs to players.  The report said MLB wanted to suspend Braun and Yankees Alex Rodriguez and a few others 100 games.  Braun had no comment after last night’s game.

Packers Mini-Camp

The Green Bay Packers opened their mandatory mini-camp on Tuesday  Defensive back Sam Shields was on the practice field for the first time this offseason after signing his free-agent tender.  Shields was sitting out hoping to get a long term deal, but finally settled on the one year tender with hopes of earning a long term contract with his play this season.  Defensive lineman Johnny Jolly was also back on the field after a 3-year suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.  Jolly told the media he was happy the Packers stuck with him and he’s a changed man.

 

WIAA Boys State Golf: Division Two

WLA freshman Chris Colla fired an even par 72 to rise for 15th to a tie for 3rd place in the WIAA Division Two Boys Golf Tournament at University Ridge on Tuesday.  Colla’s 2nd round score left him six shots off the lead.  Ripon’s Mike Lueptow shot an 86 and finished in 36th place.  St. Mary’s Springs finished in 4th place as a team in the Division Three Tournament.  The Ledgers were 15 shots behind state champion Osseo-Fairchild.  Ledger Senior Nate Strigenz shot an even par 72 in the final round to finish in 6th place and four shots off the lead. Patrick Treichel was tied for 22nd.  Brady Sarauer finished in 23rd place.  David Joslyn was 26th, and Sean Ahern was tied for 27th place.

 

WIAA Baseball Sectionals

The Waupun baseball team earned a trip back to the WIAA State Spring Baseball Tournament on Tuesday.  The Warriors beat Waupaca 5-4 and then nipped Racine St. Catherine’s 1-0 in the Sectional Final.  Waupun will play Lodi in the Division Two State Semifinals on Wednesday night, June 12 at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.  Laconia fell just short of a trip the D3 State Semifinals.  The Spartans stopped Gibralter 8-2 in the Sectional Semifinals but fell to Deerfied 7-3 in the Sectional Final over in Ripon.
