The WIAA Board of Controls announced a
couple of amendments to their constitution that will be up for vote by
membership on Monday night. The most
controversial of the two will be to institute a multiplier to private schools
to determine what divisions they are placed in for post-season
tournaments. The rule would multiply the
schools enrollment by 1.65 and that number would be used to place schools in a division. Some public school’s, especially in small rural
communities feel they are at a disadvantage when they are matched with private
schools from large metropolitan areas who have similar enrollments. If that passes it will will probably end up
in the courts. The 2nd
amendment put conference affiliation back in control of the member schools and
out of the hands of the Board of Controls.
That mean’s the WIAA would no longer be in charge of determining what
conferences schools participate in.
The St. Mary’s Springs girls basketball
team will travel to Oshkosh North on Thursday night for a WIAA Division 4
Sectional Semifinal with Oshkosh Lourdes.
