The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up their first playoff win since 1992 with a 6-2 win over the Reds in the National League Wild Card Game.  Francisco Liriano gave up one run and four hits over 7 innings to notch the win.  Marlon Byrd and Russell Martin homered for Pittsburgh.  The Pirates will not face St. Louis in the National League Division Series.  Cleveland hosts Tampa Bay tonight in the American League Wild Card Game.


The Packers get back on the practice field today as they get ready for Detroit on Sunday at Lambeau Field.   The injury report comes out so we’ll find out where the team stands injury-wise heading into the key division matchup.

 

Brewers General Manager Doug Melvin met the media to wrap up the 2013 season.  Melvin will have just three free agents on the team this offseason in pitcher Mike Gonzalez, infielder Yuni Betancourt, and 1B Corey Hart.  The Brewers started seven different players at first base this season with Hart out with a knee injury. 


The Bucks held their first practice on Tuesday as they get ready for the upcoming season.  New head coach Larry Drew was happy with what he saw as the team blends 11 new players and just four players returning from last year’s playoff squad.  The Bucks open up the preseason next Tuesday in Cleveland.  You’ll hear it on News-Talk 1450 KFIZ.

St. Mary’s Springs Academy football coach Bob Hyland is up for the honor of “Best High School Football Coach” in the state of Wisconsin via USA Today. The voting is being done online and you can find a link in the sports section at KFIZ.com.
