Messmer’s Big Second Half Paves Way Against Ledgers

Mequon, WI – In early morning action of day two of the WBY Shootout at Concordia University, St. Mary’s Springs saw a 6-point halftime lead quickly evaporate as the Messmer (Milwaukee) Bishops came out of the locker room to outscore Springs 28-14 in the third quarter. Lead by 23 points from Ray Pierce and 20 from Chris Howard, the Bishops knocked off the Ledgers 71-58 as Springs now falls to 5-2 overall on the season.
The Ledgers took a few minutes to get settled into their game at the WBY Shootout – a showcase of the best in Wisconsin high school basketball – but found their grove in the second quarter. The shooting went cold in the third quarter at the same time that Messmer found their stroke. “(We) played hard today”, said Springs coach Kyle Krueger. “Their speed got to us. We had five three’s in the first half, zero in the second”.
Senior Cory Nies lead the Ledgers with 18 points, Brennan Ottery added 16. The Ledgers are off until Thursday, January 8th when they’ll visit Laconia.
