Standoff In Waupun

It took nearly six hours Tuesday to resolve a standoff incident in Waupun. Waupun Deputy Police Chief Scott Louden says they got a call about a 22-year-old Waupun man in the 200 block of Fond du Lac Street who was threatening to do harm to himself. The man was inside a residence and had a gun to his head. Waupun Police got additional help. They got mutual aid from sheriff’s departments in Dodge and Fond du Lac Counties and from the Fond du Lac Police Department. Police were able to establish contact with the man and though it took some time negotiated a peaceful surrender. Louden says it ended well with no injuries and a person in custody.No shots were fired during the incident. The man was reportedly depressed over breaking up with his girlfriend.

A standoff incident in Waupun on Fond
du Lac Street was resolved without incident around two this afternoon. A Waupun
man had barricaded himself in his home and was threatening to hurt himself with
a gun. Waupun Police got a call around eight this morning and the Fond du Lac
County Sheriff’s SWAT team also responded. Police were able to establish contact
with the man and began negotiating with him to surrender peacefully. No shots
were fired during the incident. It was the second standoff incident in as many
days in which a man threatened to harm himself with a gun. A 29-year-old Fond du
Lac man made a similar threat Monday afternoon after barricading himself in a
resident in the 100 block of West Follett Street. That also ended without shots
fired and without incident.

Police in Waupun have been involved in a standoff with a man with a gun on Fond du Lac Street today. Waupun Police and the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s SWAT Team were called in for the situation. A perimeter was set up around a home. Authorities contacted the man and were reporting that talks were going well. No shots were reported fired. However they did advise that people stay out of the area.
