Standoff On Sibley Street In FDL

A 49-year-old Fond du Lac man is facing charges after a stand off incident with police late Wednesday night on Sibley Street. Assistant Police Chief Steve Thiry says they got a call at 11:44 p.m. that a woman and her 8-year-old daughter were being held at knife point in the residence by the woman’s estranged boyfriend. The woman and girl exited the residence a short time later when the suspect fell asleep. Neither was injured and they were safely escorted from the scene. When the man woke up he briefly stepped out of the house, but retreated back into it when officers began giving him commands.  That began a four and half hour standoff, which led to the deployment of the Department’s SWAT team. A robot was sent into the residence to find and initiate dialog with the man. The SWAT team later entered the residence and began negotiating with him. A K9 unit was kept at the ready. Eventually the man complied with officers and was taken into custody without injury. He was taken to the County Jail.  Domestic abuse related 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon, false imprisonment and intimidating a victim charges are being pursued against him.
