Starting Something Big

Did you ever wonder what you can do to make a difference in the life of a child?  How much time or energy it would take?  The answer might surprise you!

By volunteering just 4 to 6 hours a month, the impact you have on a child is BIG!  Whether you choose to volunteer as a Big Brother or Big Sister or want to volunteer with your spouse or family, the possibilities are endless!

Choose to be part of the Community or School Based program and commit a year of your time.  That consistency for the kids in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program is HUGE.

“Most kids that are part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program come from single parent households that are living at or below poverty level and don’t have what we consider a ‘normal’ childhood,” said Tammy Young, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters.  “Being part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program with a caring mentor gives our kids an opportunity to experience something different than what they see on a day to day basis.  Our Bigs truly make a difference.”

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a United Way Agency that assists children with social, emotional and character development through one-to-one mentoring relationships with caring adults.  The agency matches children with Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Big Couples, or Big Families in a community or school based program.  Children aged 6 through 13 can enroll in the program through parent or guardian referral.  Volunteers need to be at least 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license for the community based program, 16 years old for the school based program.  For more information about the program or to volunteer, call 920-922-8200 or visit www.bbbsfdl.org.
