State Awards Handed Out To 3 In Sheriff’s Department

Three deputies in the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deparment were given awards Thursday afternoon. Lt. Knoek from the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office was on hand to present the Wisconsin Professional Police Association Team Award to three of deputies.  This award is nominated yearly, statewide, and “presented to a group of officers who have acted in an exemplary manner in the best interest of police service.” (WPPA)

Deputy Olson, Deputy Handschke, and Deputy Riemenschneider (left to right), were nominated and received this award for their life-saving actions in the early morning hours of Nov. 7th, 2019 in the Oakfield area.  They assisted in locating and rendering critical first aid to a hunter that had fallen on his equipment causing life-threatening injuries.  They worked together in locating the hunter, applying a tourniquet, and transporting EMS equipment to first responders on scene so the patient could be stabilized.  The quick thinking and teamwork provided by our deputies along with first responders was critical in providing a positive outcome in this incident.
