State Investigating More Cases of Lung Disease Caused by Vaping

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says they have
now received 11 cases of teenagers and young adults hospitalized with severe
lung disease that has been linked to vaping. Seven other cases are under further
investigation. Both Dodge and Winnebago counties have confirmed cases of the
lung disease – along with Door, Racine, Walworth and Waukesha Counties.

Patients in these cases experienced shortness of breath,
fatigue, chest pain, cough and weight loss. DHS says severity has varied among
patients – with some needing assistance to breathe. While the condition of
those patients have improved with treatment, it’s not known if there will be
long term health effects. Anyone with concerns about these symptoms should
contact their doctor.

Health officials say they are continuing to work with the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and local health care providers in
the investigation.
