State Patrol Responds to 22,000-plus Calls for Service in February

The Wisconsin State Patrol responded to well over 22,000
calls for assistance during the month of February, in what was a challenging month
for people across the state when it came to dealing with rough winter weather.
In numbers released by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, state
troopers responded to 22,673 calls for assistance in February. Of that total, 5,892
were “motorist assist” calls – including more that 1,600 slide-offs and over
1,200 crashes. The State Patrol says to avoid travel if you can during bad
winter weather, but says if you have to travel to buckle-up, slow down and
allow extra time and following distance. Officials also say to monitor the
weather forecast and check road conditions and to always have a full tank of
gas and a fully-charged cell phone.
