State Proposals Could Effect Public Schools In Several Ways

The state budget and proposed legislation could have impacts on several fronts for the Fond du Lac School District and other public school districts in the state. District Superintendent Jim Sebert says he would like to see a law repealed that that sets the start of classes September 1st or later. He says he would like to see districts be able to set their own start date, but he knows the tourism industry is opposed. He says the tourism industry is opposed because they rely on high school youth for summer employment. Sebert is also pleased that Governor Walker is proposing an additional $500 million for public school funding in the state budget. He says that would be very helpful for public education.
