State Senator Rick Gudex Dead at Age 48

State Senator Rick Gudex of Fond du Lac died this
morning of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. That information
coming after a preliminary investigation into the death of the 48 year old by
the Fond du Lac County
Sheriff’s Office and the county
Medical Examiner
’s
Office. The Senator’s body was found at approximately 1:34 am in the Town of Eden in Fond
du Lac
County
.
Gudex was first elected in the 18 District Senate Seat in 2012, and in 2015
announced he would not seek re-election. Republican Dan Feyen and Democrat Mark
Harris are running for the 18th Senate Seat vacated by Gudex. Both
issued statements today offering their prayers for the Gudex family. Follow up
investigation into Gudex’s death as well as toxicology reports are still
pending. 

Feyen released the following statement on the death of Senator Gudex: 


At this difficult time, I am asking that the citizens of the State of Wisconsin keep State Senator Rick Gudex’s wife and family in their thoughts and prayers.  Rick Gudex was a dedicated public servant who will be deeply missed. His friendship and trust meant so much to me.  My wife Lori and I are praying for Rick’s wife, family, friends, and colleagues and asking that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers.”


Mark Harris issued the following: 


“I am deeply saddened by the loss of state Senator Rick Gudex. My condolences and sympathies go out to the Gudex family and their friends”


Governor Scott Walker released the following statement: 


“Tonette and I are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Senator Rick Gudex. Rick was a good man who served his community and state well, and he will be missed. Our hearts and our prayers go out to his wife Kim and their two children during this difficult time”

Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald issued the following statement: 


“I was deeply saddened to hear this morning of the passing of Senator Rick Gudex. Rick will be deeply missed by his Senate colleagues; our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.


Brad Courtney, Chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin issued the following: 


“We are saddened by the news of Rick Gudex’s passing, and we offer our prayers to his family, friends, and colleagues at such a difficult time. Rick was an outstanding legislator and a good friend to many, always looking to build consensus that put the people of Wisconsin first. He will be remembered for his commitment to public service and for his dedication to his family and to the people of Wisconsin


Representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt issued the following statement: 


“My family and I are shocked and deeply saddened at the passing of my good friend and colleague, Senator Rick Gudex.  Our sincere prayers are with his wife & children, family and friends.  It was an honor and a privilege to serve and work closely with Rick on both the Fond du Lac City Council and the Wisconsin State Legislature.  Rick’s family should be very proud of the service he provided to his community and state.  His passing is a great loss for us all.  May God extend His loving hand in these difficult times over all who mourn Rick’s loss.”
