State Senator Says He Didn’t Seek Out Group’s Backing

State Senator Rick Gudex says he didn’t seek out the support of a group that advocates for school choice. Mike McCabe of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign threatened to file an election complaint after it came to light that the American Federation for Children boasted about spending more than $325,000 to get Gudex elected. Gudex says he had been an advocate for school choice long before he ran for the State Senate and believes that’s why the group supported him, but he says he didn’t seek out that support. Much of the support by the group came in the form of “issue ads,” which are supposed to educate voters. Gudex says he didn’t know he was getting that support until he saw the advertising disclaimers. As for school choice Gudex says he believes some form of school choice may survive the state budget process, but not necessarily what the Governor first proposed.
