Statewide Tornado Drill Expected to Continue Despite Snow in Forecast

Despite snow in the forecast, the statewide
tornado drill is expected to go on as planned on Thursday. Wisconsin Emergency
Management said in a news release Monday that despite snow and possible blizzard-like
conditions in parts of northern Wisconsin on Thursday, the drill is still
expected to continue. On Thursday, a mock Tornado Watch will go into effect at
1 pm, with a mock Tornado Warning at 1:45. A second mock warning will be issued
at 6:45 pm. Current policy is to go forward with the drill unless there is a
potential for tornadoes or severe thunderstorms on the scheduled date. The
National Weather Service is set to monitor the weather system as it approaches
the state and will make a final decision on whether to reschedule the drill to
Friday or cancel altogether by Wednesday afternoon. If the drill stays as
scheduled, Emergency Management officials say that participation in the drill
is voluntary, and local governments, schools and businesses should decide whether
to proceed with the drill based on current conditions in the area.
