The sturgeon spearing season on Lake Winnebago enters its final two days today – and Friday was a successful day for spearers. 39 fish were harvested on day 14 of the season – which is the highest total for any weekday so far this season. Stockbridge Harbor registered 17 fish Friday, with Waverly Beach a close second at 13. Two fish larger than 100 pounds were speared on Friday – the largest of which went to Charles Freund of Chilton, who registered at 122 pound, 72 inch sturgeon. DNR Sturgeon Biologist Ryan Koenigs says the weather forecast may impact numbers for the final weekend of sturgeon spearing – and he adds that any spearers also decided to pull their shacks from the lake altogether on Friday.
