Sturgeon Season Coming Up

The DNR’s Sturgeon Biologist for the Lake Winnebago system says the 2017 sturgeon season will be remembered for two things. Ryan Koenigs says unseasonably warm weather caused spearers to pull their shanties prior to the second weekend of the season. On the other hand two sturgeon were taken that were over 150 pounds and nine fish weighed in at more than 140 pounds. A total of 847 fish were taken on Lake Winnebago and the Upriver Lakes. The 2018 season starts this Saturday. Listen for sturgeon spearing reports on KFIZ throughout the season.  (DNR photo)
