Suicidal Subject Taken Into Custody In Waupun

Update:

Waupun Police spent Sunday night and most of Monday morning trying to negotiate with a 55-year-old man who was threatening suicide. Police Chief Dale Heeringa says they were tipped off by a crisis/suicide hotline. He says they determined the call came from the City of Waupun in the 1000 block of Oriole Street. Police were unable to make contact with the man who has been less than cooperative with them during numerous past contacts. Chief Heeringa says they were finally able to contact the man, but to no avail. Because of the possibility the man might be armed they asked for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team’s help late Monday morning. He says they wanted to make sure the neighborhood was safe, and the man was safe and got the care he needed. Shortly after noon Monday the man surrendered without incident. He was taken to a Fond du Lac County facility on a mental health hold and charges are pending. Heeringa says they have obtained a search warrant for the residence.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team took an armed suicidal subject into custody in the City of Waupun today. The Waupun Police Department requested their assistance.
