Sunday Afternoon Traffic Stop Produces Large Cache Of Weapons, Drugs

A traffic stop Sunday afternoon results in three Fond du Lac men being arrested.

The FDL County Sherriff’s Department stopped a vehicle Sunday, April 10, 2022, at 4:05pm, at N. Brooke St. and Lewis St. in the City of Fond du Lac.

During the traffic stop, the deputy could smell the odor of marijuana and the driver admitted he and others had been smoking marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the day. Deputies conducted a subsequent search of the vehicle and located five handguns, including one that was loaded, additional ammunition, over 50 grams of marijuana and THC related products, drug paraphernalia, and several hundred dollars cash.

The three occupants of the vehicle, all Fond du Lac men, were taken into custody for a variety of drug and firearm related charges, and remain in custody at the Fond du Lac County Jail.

In a press released by FDL County Sherriff Ryan Waldschmidt, it stated “Although traffic stops are a common and recurring activity in law enforcement, we don’t refer to them as “routine” because no two stops are alike. Deputies never know who or what dangers they will face inside that vehicle. This investigation serves as another example of the exemplary work our deputies perform each day in their efforts to remove illegal firearms and drugs from our streets and hold dangerous suspects accountable for their illegal activities.”

No further details of the incident were released at this time, as the defendants have not yet made an initial court appearance.
