Suspect Arrested after Hitting Woman With Car in Calumet County

A Calumet County woman is in the hospital after being hit
by a car early Monday morning. The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office had received
a 9-1-1 call around 3:30 AM for a report of a woman being hit by a vehicle in
the 5600 block of Irish Road in the Town of Rantoul. Deputies found the
34-year-old woman who lives at that address had gone outside to investigate
noises she heard coming from her garage. Investigators say  the suspect had parked the car near the road
and entered the garage, and when confronted by the victim left the scene in the
vehicle, hitting the woman.  The victim
sustained critical injuries and was flown to Theda Care Regional Medical Center
in Neenah for treatment.

A second officer found a vehicle in a ditch about a mile
away from the scene that is believed to be involved in the incident. The suspect
was arrested and transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
They now face charges of OWI causing injury and burglary. The Calumet County
Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident.
