Suspect Caught After 28 Mile Long Chase Through County

A Village of Rosendale Police Department officer attempted to stop a vehicle Sunday, August 21, 2022 around 10:30 AM for operating with no registration plates displayed.

When a traffic stop was initiated, the vehicle failed to stop, increased in speed, and fled eastbound on Rose-Eld Road from the Village of Rosendale to State Highway 23.

The pursuit continued eastbound on 23 with the operator driving erratically at a high rate of speed, and at times, travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes.

Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office were able to position themselves at 23 and Esterbrook Road with
tire deflation devices but the vehicle was able to avoid those and turned southbound on Esterbrook Road.

The pursuit continued south on Esterbrook to Brown Road, where the vehicle turned around and traveled back northbound on Esterbrook Road causing the Rosendale officer to have to take evasive measures to avoid a collision with the fleeing vehicle.

The vehicle again avoided the tire deflation devices and turned eastbound on Brown Road to County Highway D.

The pursuit continued southbound on D, then southbound onto Highway 151.

As the pursuit continued, the operator of the vehicle travelled from the southbound lanes of 151 to the northbound lanes of 151, continuing southbound into oncoming traffic reaching speeds of 130 mph.

Deputies paralleled the vehicle as well as pursued into oncoming traffic and attempted to position themselves to disable the vehicle utilizing their own patrol squads but due to the speeds, were unable to do so.

The pursuit eventually made it’s way into Waupun where the decision was made to terminate the chase due to safety concerns from being in a residential area at high speeds.

The vehicle continued on its own, not being pursued, through the City of Waupun where it sideswiped an occupied vehicle as it travelled west on Main Street.

At approximately 10:47 AM, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center took two separate calls of a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle, southbound on 26 driving erratically and passing on the right. One of the callers indicated the vehicle had turned and was travelling eastbound on Highway TC.

Deputies responded to the area and were able to locate the vehicle traveling northbound on 151.

Deputies attempted to intercept the vehicle, however the driver was able to avoid those efforts, again travelling from the northbound lanes to the southbound lanes, still driving northbound.

The vehicle attempted to turn north on Wonser Road from Highway 151 but the driver lost control and crashed.

The driver attempted to flee on foot but deputies were able to catch him.

The 26-year-old man from Oshkosh was taken into custody and transported to SSM St. Agnes to be medically evaluated before being transported to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Jail.

The man will be facing numerous charges ranging from traffic offenses, recklessly endangering safety, eluding, and bail jumping.

The pursuit travelled approximately 28 miles. One Sheriff’s Office patrol squad was damaged in the pursuit, as was one civilian vehicle in the City of Waupun. Several highway fences were also damaged. No civilians or deputies were injured.

In total, six departments were involved in the chase. Rosendale Police Department, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, City of Waupun Police Department, Dodge County Sheriff’s Department, and City of Fond du Lac Police Department.
