Man Involved In Domestic Incident Dies From Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate an incident that occurred early Sunday morning. Deputies were called about 12:15am Sunday, March 21, 2021, to a report of an argument between a male and female that involved a firearm and had occurred a short time earlier at a private residence in the town of Taycheedah.

A physical altercation occurred at the 29-year-old male’s residence between he and his 36-year-old girlfriend who lives in Fond du Lac.  During the altercation, the male armed himself with a handgun and fired one round in the direction of the female.  She was able to escape the residence and call 911.  In the meantime, a friend of the suspect arrived at the residence and allowed him to hide in the trunk of a vehicle while he attempted to transport him to a different location.  This was the vehicle that law enforcement stopped at CTH WH and CTH W a short time later.

Deputies immediately established a perimeter and attempted to negotiate with the subject for several minutes before he sustained a self-inflicted a gunshot wound. Medical treatment was promptly initiated with the subject transported by EMS to a regional trauma center where he later died.

No deputies were injured in the incident, and no shots were fired by deputies. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office was contacted and is currently conducting an independent agency investigation and the findings of the investigation will be referred to the District Attorney’s Office for review per Wisconsin state statute.

In addition to the Fond du Lac County and Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, other agencies that assisted in this incident include the Wisconsin State Patrol, Mt. Calvary Ambulance and Fire Department, City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, and the Fond du Lac County Medical Examiner’s Office.
