Suspect In High-Speed Pursuit Makes Court Appearance

A high-speed chase late last week resulted in the arrest a Milwaukee man. That man, 32-year old Justin Carter-Smith, was in court Friday on charges of leading the pursuit. Carter-Smith is facing a felony count of fleeing. The incident started Thursday (November 5) in Columbus, where a complaint of stolen liquor had been made.

The Columbus Police Department alerted the Dodge County Sheriff’s Department, with the suspect being located in Beaver Dam. The pursuit ensued, making its way to Fox Lake, and then Waupun, where Waupun Police and Dodge County Sheriff’s Deputies continued the chase. As the suspect attempted to make a turn on Jefferson Street, the vehicle he was operating struck a curb, disabling it. The driver, reported as Carter-Smith, fled on foot while a passenger was taken into custody at the scene.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered a number of bottles of unopened liquor. Carter-Smith could face up to three-and-a-half years in prison. Bond was set at $2,500, with Carter-Smith due back in court November 19th.
