Teen Arrested In Fond du Lac Following Car Chase

A Friday morning car chase that started on I-41 and ended up in the city limits of Fond du Lac ended with an arrest but no injuries. The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department was notified Friday January 22, 2021 just after 11:15 a.m. of a reckless driver, heading south near the Winnebago and Fond du Lac County line on I-41, traveling at a high rate of speed, almost striking one of the caller’s vehicle. About 15 minutes later, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office Deputy, along with troopers from the Wisconsin State Patrol, located the vehicle and attempted to stop the vehicle as it exited I-41 southbound at Hwy.23.

A pursuit ensued as the vehicle continued into the City of Fond du Lac traveling east on W. Johnson St, south on Peters Ave, and then other city streets trying to elude deputies. The vehicle crashed while trying to negotiate a curve in the roadway on Grove St., striking several small trees and shrubs while trying to elude the deputies, and coming to rest in the yard of a home on Grove St.

The driver, a 16-year-old Fond du Lac teen, along with a 15-year-old passenger from Appleton, and a 15-year-old passenger from Fond du Lac, were not injured. The passengers of the vehicle were released to their parents, while the operator of the vehicle was taken to the Fond du Lac County Jail on charges of Fleeing as well as other charges relating to the chase. The pursuit lasted 3 miles and resulted in no injuries.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the pursuit by Wisconsin State Patrol and the City of Fond du Lac Police Department.
