Teenager To Be Tried As An Adult In Mall Shooting

The state Supreme Court rules a teenager who shot and wounded eight people at Milwaukee area mall should be tried as an adult.

The majority in the court’s 4-3 decision declared a Children’s Court judge erred when she denied a prosecution request to waive the then 15-year-old boy into adult court for the November 2020 shootings at Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa.

Chief Justice Annette Ziegler wrote there was no reasonable basis for denying the waiver. In the minority dissent, Justice Brian Hagedorn the decision to not move the case to adult court was within the discretion the law gives circuit court judges.

The teen is charged with eight counts of first-degree reckless injury.
