Temporary Housing Of Violent Sex Offenders Moves Forward, Sheriff Approves Location

The FDL County Board will spend $150,000 out of the County General Fund to purchase a double-wide housing unit that will house violent sex offenders.

The housing unit would be placed on the County Highway Department grounds.

The Resolution was approved unanimously Tuesday night(11/9/2021) by the board on a 22-0 vote, and also received strong support by FDL County Sheriff Ryan Waldschmidt.

Sheriff Waldschmidt said the location is the best place in the county to place the structure. He said the location receives heavy Sheriff’s Department traffic every day, from fueling of vehicles, to shift changes, fleet repairs, as well as the site of the firearms range. Sheriff Waldschmidt said “from a public safety standpoint, it’s a great location with lots of eyes on it.”

The location will also not require an investment in sewer or water as the property sits in the City of Fond du Lac and already has those amenities located there.

There was no date given as to when the structure would be in place, or how many offenders would be housed there.
