THELMA Announces Great Hall Concert Series
Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts (THELMA) announced today its 2017-2018 Great Hall Concert Series which kicks off October 13 with Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound.
Benefitting from years of unassuming and understated hipness, Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound bring forth a funky, lyrically charged racket that sits comfortably with soulful sounds. Intricate but free-swinging, explosive yet intimate, and fresh.
Taking cues from the dance bands of western Louisiana (and his native Midwest), the streets of New Orleans, touring African and Caribbean combos and the soul, funk, and blues of his youth coupled with early, teeth-cutting experience in the verbal hotbeds of the coffeehouse scene, Cebar is a masterful synthesis of rhythmic culture.
Paul Cebar Tomorrow Sound played last in June 2013 when THELMA announced its new name and brand. THELMA was still a construction site so this will be the band’s first time in the Great Hall since the renovation.
The rest of the season includes an array of college rock, blues, zydeco, Celtic, salsa and Memphis soul. Here is the lineup: 800 lb Gorilla November 17, The Jimmys December 15, Isthmus Brass December 22, Kyle Megna and the Monsoons January 26, Copper Box February 9, Driveway Thriftdwellers February 23, Albert Cummings March 9, Reilly March 16, Sammy Miller and the Congregation April 6, Salsa Manzana May 4 and Davina and the Vagabonds May 18.
