Third Annual Great Pink Pumpkin Run A Success

Moraine Park Technical College’s 2016 Great Pink Pumpkin 5K Run/Walk featured over 500 participants and raised more than $10,000 for Breast Cancer Recovery and student scholarships.

Breast Cancer Recovery is an organization whose mission is to provide environments for women breast cancer survivors to heal emotionally.

The third annual Great Pink Pumpkin Run was held Oct. 15 at the College’s Fond du Lac campus. Co-chairs Brenda Schaefer, Moraine Park social science instructor, and Jeff Stueber, business management instructor, said they’re thankful for the support the event received in raising both awareness and funds for a good cause.

“It is so exciting to see over 500 people come out as families and friends to celebrate breast cancer awareness – including many survivors,” Schaefer said.

Moraine Park had seven program areas represented at the Great Pink Pumpkin, providing services such as first aid, blood pressure screenings, pink hair extensions, children activities, gourmet desserts and more.

“This collaborative college event was, in essence, an impactful opportunity for our College to demonstrate our community involvement through the most valuable resource we have at our school, the students,” Stueber said.

Some of Moraine Park’s students will also be aided directly by the event as well.

After previously awarding two scholarships to students affected by breast cancer with money raised at last year’s event, Stueber said they are hoping to double that total this year.
