Third Annual Sturgeon Spectacular This Weekend In FDL

Activities for the Third Annual Sturgeon Spectacular in Fond du Lac get underway today. The three-day celebration takes place during opening weekend of the sturgeon spearing season. It was cooked up by the Fond du Lac Area Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The reason why we took this challenge on is we determined we needed more events in Fond du Lac to bring in more tourists and also to perpetuate a more positive image about Fond du Lac, there is good stuff happening, it is an exciting place to be.” CVB President Craig Molitor says they hired a festivals director for their office and have had a whole year to beef up activities for the Sturgeon Spectacular. He says, “We have had an entire year to plan this year’s festival and I think we set the bar high for ourselves and if you look at the schedule I think you’re going to find something, it sounds a little corny, but there is something for everybody.” Today’s activities include the 29th Annual Sturgeon Stampede, the Wisconsin Snow Sculpting Competition at Thelma Sadoff Center for the Arts, the Running of the Sturgeon Parade featuring Molitor in a sturgeon costume being chased by people with toy spears and a concert at the Thelma from 7 to 9 p.m. The parade is at 6 p.m. starting at Western and Main and heading north towards Sheboygan Street. A complete list of activities can be found online at the sturgeon spectacular website.
