Third Shift Manning Of WCI Guard Towers Could Be Eliminated In State Budget

State Representative Michael Schraa says he and the late State Senator Rick Gudex were able to keep third shift manning of the guard towers at Waupun Correctional in place for two years longer than the other state prisons. He says they included that in the last State Budget. He says that was done with the understanding that additional safety measures would be put in place, but he still has some concerns. He says he would like to see additional safety measures in place before they eliminate overnight manning of those towers at the prison. He says it is an old facility and something better needs to be put in place to protect residents of the City and the guards and workers. Schraa met with Corrections Secretary Jon Litscher Tuesday to discuss corrections issues. Schraa chairs the Assembly’s Corrections Committee.
