Three Arrested in Washington County After Stealing Fireworks, High Speed Chase

Three people from Madison have
been arrested after stealing nearly $2,700 worth of fireworks from a store in
Washington County and leading sheriff’s deputies on a high speed chase in the
early morning hours Wednesday. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was called
to the Phantom Fireworks store in the Town of Addison just before 12:30 AM for
a report of a theft of a large amount of fireworks. Investigators say three
people entered the store together, then an 18-year-old woman faked an injury to
distract the staff. The two other suspects, a 19-year-old man and a 31-year-old
man then removed carts full of merchandise from the store. A deputy located the
suspect’s car and a chase ensued, leading eventually to Highway 45, where
speeds reached in excess of 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended on the south
side of Kewaskum on Kettleview Drive when tire deflation devices were used and
the vehicle crashed into a guardrail.

Two passengers were taken into custody
immediately, but the driver ran from the scene. He was found hiding nearby and
arrested. All three complained of injuries and were taken to a hospital for
treatment before being taken to jail. All three remain in custody on felony
theft charges, while the driver will face additional charges related to the pursuit.
