Today Is Lightning Awareness Day In WI

We’ve seen enough rain
lately, and with the storms, comes the increased chance of lightning. Today has
been designated as Lightning Safety Awareness Day in Wisconsin, and with more people looking to
enjoy the outdoors in anyway possible, it’s a great reminder to have a plan for
lightning and put that plan into place when you hear thunder.

Lightning can
strike from as far as 10-15 miles away, which means when you hear thunder, it’s
a good time to head indoors. Bobbi Hicken, Director of Communications and
Emergency Management for Fond du
Lac
County
,
says it’s important to identify what you and others around you are responsible
for, in the event lightning ends up being part of your outdoor activity.
