Top Beam Hoisted Into Place For New SMSA School

Officials at St. Mary’s Springs Academy in Fond du Lac reached a construction milestone for their new K-5 School with the lifting of the top beam into place. Everyone involved in the project signed the beam earlier this week and Wednesday it was lifted into place. SMSA President Kelly Norton says they are on schedule with the project. She says putting the last beam into place will allow them to do interior work during the winter months. The new school should be complete in the spring and remodeling of the high school into a 6-12th grade school will start then. She says it should all be complete by next fall, but fundraising for $24.3 million capital campaign continues. Norton says they are at $23.5 million. Building Committee member Jerry Lauby says the beam lifting is a construction tradition. He says an American Flag is put on one corner of the beam while it’s being hoisted into position.
