Transition Program Will Aid Parents Of Children With Disabilities

Fond du Lac County Community on Transition will be hosting a Parent’s Night for parents dealing with children with disabilities that are transitioning into adulthood. “A Smooth Transition through a Parent’s Perspective” will be held at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18th. Angie Liner of the Fond du Lac County Aging and Disabilities Resource Center says it is for parents of high school students with physical or developmental or intellectual disabilities that will soon be 18-years-old. She says, “The purpose of the event is to help parents who have young students or children who are going to be transitioning out of high school. Help them through that transition because we know that for parents this is a very scary, very scary time for them.” The free event will include five different presentations including one that Liner will be doing herself. She says, “With the Guardianship presentation I will be having a parent with me who has went through that Guardianship process with their child. So we are going to have some questions and answers at the end of each session and that way the parent can also answer some of those questions as to what it was like for them.” She says if you are interested in participating in the program give her a call at (920) 929-3460.
