Trial For Former Slinger High School Band Director Could Be Held Elsewhere

A Washington County judge will decide today whether the trial for a former Slinger High School band director accused of sexually assaulting a student should be held elsewhere due to pre-trial publicity. Sixty-seven-year-old David Hanke, who now lives in Fond du Lac, will be tried in April. The sexual assault of a student by school staff charge stems from an incident in 2000 when Hanke allegedly invited the teenage girl to his home. Three other women who have made accusations against him will be allowed to testify during his trial. He is also facing a drunken driving charge in Fond du Lac County stemming from an arrest on December 31st. His initial court hearing on that and two other traffic charges will be next Monday.
